Duties of the Council Officers

Chaplain

Serves as spiritual advisor to Knights and families of the Council

Provides his message to members during its business meetings

Grand Knight

Presides over all meetings

Appoints committees as needed including program and membership directors

Countersigns checks and orders for payment

Responsible for or appointing a leader for the Council’s Exemplification Team

Deputy Grand Knight

Assists the Grand Knight with operation of the Council and any other duties assigned to him by the Grand Knight

Is the Program Director (in this Council)

In the absence of the Grand Knight, presides at Council meetings.

Chancellor

Strengthens members’ interest and participation in Council activities

Assists Grand Knight and Deputy Grand Knight with duties as assigned

Serves on the Council’s Admission Committee

Inside/Outside Guards

Attend the doors of the Council chamber, checking for current membership cards and allowing entrance

Advocate

Acts as parliamentarian for the Council

Should have a working knowledge of Robert’s Rules of Order, Charter, Constitution & Laws, Council By-Laws, and Method of Conducting Council Meetings

When needed, will seek legal assistance from the state advocate

Financial Secretary

Upon recommendation of the Grand Knight and Trustees, he is appointed for a three-year term at the direction of the Supreme Knight

Collects money, in the form of dues, from members. He is responsible for sending billing notices and initiating retention measures

Ensures Council membership records are updated

Responsible for tax form 990 completion and submission

Files various reports as required by Supreme Council

Treasurer

Responsible for maintaining the funds for the Council

Writes checks in response to warrants provided by the Financial Secretary

Gives reports to members during monthly meetings

Warden

Responsible for supervising and maintaining all Council property

Sets up Council chambers for meetings and degree exemplifications

oversees inside and outside guards

orders and maintains dinner supplies

Trustees

Supervises all financial business of the Council and conducts the semiannual audits

Serves as retention and nominating committees

Lecturer (appointed by GK)

Responsible for providing suitable educational and entertaining programs under the “Good of the Order” section of Council meetings

Recorder

Responsible for keeping and maintaining a true and permanent record of all actions of the Council and maintains all correspondence of the Council

Several of the duties and responsibilities listed here may differ some from the official guidelines supplied by Supreme. But because of the size of our membership, these work for our Council.
